Well, I came in early to work so I am gonna hunt somehow.... tonight the winds are pretty crazy. WX man says 15-30mph with 35mph gusts and light rain, 41 degrees...
I plan to sneak an alpha into a tree close to bedding using the wind for cover (hopefully I can find a big tree). What are the thoughts of the group on hunting in these winds tonight? I am hunting scrubby CRP and the bedding area is in a brushy draw about 300yards from the gravel road the deer are moving to food just across the road. I have seen several does and one mature buck moving from this general area about 1.5 hr before sunset two weekends ago.
Am I crazy, should I stay at home?
Thanks

I think wind and bedding are a good bet. If you stick to thick heavy cover windy days can produce some nice buck sightings. I know guys that won't go out in the wind but I feel anything between 15 and 30 is perfect. Knocked some good ones down in these conditions.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

welp, I ended up putting a stalk to within 10 yards of a deer... then it lifted its head and was a spike buck... oh well, it was fun to stalk him anyway... didn't see anything else all night

I'd take 15 to 20 over 5 mph any day!

I agree, nothing worse than calm and quiet.

I like 10-15 personally... Dead calm is tuff to hunt unless in-between fronts or prior to a storm
