Camera Pic of a Good One.. Again

Unread postby Chasman » Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:32 am

I have photos of this buck going back 3 years now. I got him sparring another good buck this year pics are a little dark may post later. And its the same old story. I have only seen this deer once during daylight during that time frame. I have video of him and later that day had him at 15 yds chasing a doe. Did not take the shot could not get him to stop, until he was 30 yds and only a neck shot then.

Going to take a less is more approach this year. He does not bed on our land. I only have hunches to where he may live. If he is going on 5 years old he is pretty slick to all the hunting stuff. I am staying out of area in which he has showed up and only hunt when things are perfect, and closer to rut. Any thoughts or suggestions on how else to close the deal he is one heck of a buck, dare I say "SLOB"

That is a hammer of a buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Curious why you'd wait for the rut to hunt him? I personally would try to catch up.to him before that point. During the rut his movement will be less predictable while he's in hot pursuit - just my own opinion. I think I'd look for him now and hope a hot doe brings him past during the rut. He could wind up miles from you during the rut and potentially relocate all together. What a gorgeous buck!

Sam Ubl

I have hunted this buck in hindsight I think with too much pressure. I was hunting all the land I could get access to and in most cases scenting up and tipping this guy off. Overall my tactics were not sound. I overhunted, stuck my nose in too far and I never seen him at all last year. But I was still getting pictures of this guy the start of gun season all the way through gun season. Just all at night. So this year I have stayed out of all the surrounding properties, I did commit to a couple areas and pre hung and did some light clearing of branches for upcoming sits. I don't know what else to do? When I said rut, well the pre rut is more of what I looking at. I want to be around his area as much as possible in a few more weeks. Until then I will let him get comfy. Image
