The last 4 years
I normally don't start hunting for bucks till about the 3rd week or so of October. This year I started today and had my 1st serious buck hunt. Yesterday I was checking a trail camera and to my surprise I stumbled upon a buck bed In a transition where cattails start. The bed was In a small red bush tree In the cattails. Some old rubs In the bed along with a very fresh rub. You could tell the buck who did the latest rub was a buck with some good width. I'm about 95% positive on who that buck Is. Anyhow I did not see my targeted buck for the night. Saw 12 doe's and fawns that also bed In this huge slue of cattails.
My point of this thread? This was my 1st year since 2008 that I did not see the targeted buck that I was after on my very 1st sit/buck hunt of the year. Every year since 2009 I've saw the buck I've been after on my 1st sit hunting him.
October 24th, 2009. My very 1st sit for the year for this 4 year old 150 Inch buck. I had him at about 10 yards. For whatever reason I hit him a little to far forward and hit him In the shoulder blade. He lived through It as I saw him 4 more times that year. In the pics below he's hitting one of my mock scrapes.
October 28th, 2010. My very sit for the year once again. Guess who show's? The same guy as above but this time he's a year older sporting a mid 160's rack. I had him between 25 to 30 yards but that's to far of a shot for this recurve bow hunter. He would have came with In 10 to 15 yards If It weren't for a 3 year old buck that decided to show up and screw up this hunt. The big guy saw the 3 year old and made a bee line for him. Hair was standing up on his back. He was ticked at the 3 year old. I was too as I knew the hunt was over!! Anyhow, pics below of the 2010 buck I almost had again on my 1st sit of the year.
The neighbor shot him with the ML November 25th I think the date was. I heard the shot and had that bad feeling. I was right.
October 31st, 2011 (Halloween). My very 1st sit of the year again. This time I was after the buck who screwed my hunt up October 28th, 2010. The 3 year old from the story above. Anyhow he's now a 4 year old and put on some decent tine length. The last 2 years he didn't grow much but he finally grew some as a 4 year old. I've had pics of this buck since 2009 as a 2 year old. Maybe 125 Inches at best he would've scored In 2011 but that's a big jump from the 100 to 105 he would've scored In 2010. Anyhow I set up on him as he was the best buck on the property Inches wise. Low and behold he shows up an hour before dark. At the time I had 4 doe's beside me at 10 yards. He comes over to Investigate. He's now directly under my stand for at least 10 minutes feeding and snooping and I can't move an Inch. The one doe walked away and he followed her. I couldn't move as the other 3 doe's caught me trying to move to get a shot off at this buck. Frustrating but what's a person do. Here's some pics of him.
October 2nd, 2012. My very 1st sit and my target buck does not show. My streak Is now over. A good run It was I guess. It never dawned on me until the evening was over that I had saw every buck I was after on my 1st hunt of the year hunting them since 2009. I thought It was kind of neat so I thought I'd share It with you all. Maybe one of these years I can come full circle and arrow my target buck on my 1st sit. Been close so many times. Here Is pics of the buck I was after this evening.
Honestly there Is one other buck I'd probably shoot too If he gives me a shot. Was also hoping another buck from 2011 would be around that I had a few encounters with last year but so far no pics of him. That particular buck Is either a 5 or 6 year old. I'm leaning more towards 6. Hopefully he shows up yet. He don't have much for a rack at all but he's got a monster body. The last 2 years he's been pushing the 230lb dressed mark with ease prior to the rut. His sheds from last year scored a whopping 115 Inches. He needs to go.

Very cool.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Wow, great streak! Excellent story and great pictures. You still have to be fired up with this buck still out there, he is a dandy.
