When I look at this buck all I see is a giant typical. It would seem one has to go way out of their way and make up all kind of excuses to end up at a 180 non-typical buck. Kind of makes you wonder if this was "just" a 200 inch deer and non competing for the WR if it might have been scored differently. Thier club their rules but it kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I would like to know if the 4 new additions to the scorers book is what made it go non typical.... not sure if they will ever tell us that.

I've seen it in person, looks like a common base to me.

I agree but haven't seen it personally. Very similar to the Zaft buck.

If the pannel all agreed it was a nontypical, I'll go with their descion. I just hope the pannel was not influenced in their decision.

I think my issue is more how they classify typicals and non-typical instead of how they scored this individual buck. I think the whole system is flawed. If it were me I would toss the records in the garbage and start over.

I agree the scoring system is antiquated. I think the buck score is correct to their system. It's the system that is incorrect. JMHO

I agree, it is what it is. One helluva buck, but just not perfect in the way that the b/c system views it. Antlers shouldn't be about a final number tally anyway. That buck is amazing...and doesn't need recognition in some book to be beyond impressive. just my two cents

I also think those are common base points. GIANT GIANT buck however you look at him but not a flat oh slick typical like the Hanson, Jordan, or Bills buck.

In this day of "deer farming" and high fence, should there be a "record" system at all?

Should Wisconsin swamp hunting be compared to someone in another state who leases thousands of acres, plants acres of food plots, then shoots a "farmed" "record" buck?

Even though there are fair chase criterion in place for P&Y, you know there are those trying to enter high fence (and/or poached) deer.

I sense that Pope and Young are spinning in their graves.

After watching all of the videos on it, I think it can still be scored as a typical with common bases. That just affects how/where you measure the tine height from on those points. I believe it was scored as non typical because they say one of the common base points comes off the inside of the rack. After watching the video about it, I would disagree with that reason.

Now...I know nothing about scoring except what I saw in that video and the basics. I am in no place to say if it a typical deer or not. All I know is it is a lot of antler!

Here is the link to the video. http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/tv. All you need to do is put "any email address" in to watch it. I used an old one from collage that hasn't been active for 7 years.

Deer and Deert Hunting did a live stream show on this today. I watched a little bit of it. One thing that stood out is there are several bucks scored as typicals with the exact same antler arrangement as the King buck. They showed pictures of the bucks.

I think the point looks out of place.

I disagree with a few of the statements here. First off it is nothing like the zaft buck, the antler tines from the zaft buck that are considered non typical do not come off the main beam and angle from g2 because they are growing from the g2. If you look at this buck you will see that although they are close, both points rise off the main beam. I think there is a misconception that is simply revolving around the mass of the main beam and the smaller size of the g3. Trust me when I say this, if the g3 were the length everyone pictures in their head as "perfect" there would be a lot less people looking at it as a non-typ.
