Dan, entry route for your buck?
with the wind out of the wnw today, I was wondering why you didn't approach your stand from (the bottom of the pic you posted) rather than the top?

its just about impenetrable from the south. Very thick. The deer in both bedding areas would of heard me coming.

This looks like a case where you crossed upwind of the bed? I take it you were maybe more focused on the other bed but was also setup to hunt both of them. We have talked about this before on here, I killed my 2010 buck crossing upwind of his bed, not something you want to do but if you have to it can be done.

I don't think I ever let my wind hit either bed, but it could have... The deer was not down wind when he smelled me.

Re: Dan, entry route for your buck?
My wind arrow could be off a little. I turned towards the stand position with the wind in mind before it would be blowing towards bedding. wind always seems to tunnel thru the open woods at the bottom of the ridge too, which works to my advantage as long as it don't catch the thermals to the upper bed.

The wind looked realy close on that last turn south based on your arrow, but of course I wasn't on the ground with you. You certainly shot the gap between the two beds, nice move!

Was this a preset stand, or mobile?

Pre-set, 1st hunt of the year. Up until this year, I always hunted this area mobile, but decided to throw some stands up after the scouting workshops. Still only gets hunted a couple times a season.

Would it be OK to add a topo for terrain clarification?
