jonsimoneau wrote:Best story I've heard so far! How did you determine where he liked to bed? What type of cover was he bedding in? How close to the bedding are were you setup when you shot him? How was he moving as far as wind direction goes? Great buck and congrats again on seeing your plan through!

Thanks Jon,

I figured this bucks bedding out basically by knowing this farm like the back of my hand. I do a ton of shed hunting and it's that time of year that I get a good feeling of where the deer bed at. Then it's just through long range observation and trail cams that I take a educated guess on where exactly they are bedding. He was bedding on an open hardwood ridge finger that has dense cover on the outskirts of it. I was roughly 120-150 yards from where I figured he was bedded. That's as close as I can get with the way that spot lays out, and I can only hunt it early in the season before leaf drop. He came in with the wind quartering into his nose, he was using the wind to sense danger from the woods behind him and using his sight to check on the field he was heading to. Hope that offers some sort of insight

History, age, and size. Well done on putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. Has he always had turned down beams? Any trail cam pics of him?

I would shoot that deer every time it walked by me, his head looks like a cinder block and he has a tank of a body.

Congratulations.

Heck of a buck! You guys have some great fall color p that way too. What little color we get doesn't hit until lateroctober or early November. Sure makes for some nice kill photos! Congrats!

Thanks fellas and thanks Muddy. No his downturned beams started last year as a 4 year old. I have trail cam pics but I'll have to get them off of my work computer. I'll share the whole history with this deer when I do a full story for the contest....I'll get the trail cam pics in there.
