First deer beast style
I found this site in october of last year. To say its changed the way I hunt completely is kind of an understatement. As soon as last season ended I started scouting new spots every week. Saturday night I went out on some public close to home and was rather discouraged when I found 2 stands within 100 yds of where I wanted to set up. Well I didn't see anything Saturday night but knew I had many more spots to hunt in. Sunday night I decided to try an island on the back side of my property that I never would have thought about hunting had it not been for dans marsh bucks movie and all of the advise that is so generously given on here. I scouted the island in late spring and found a good bed in a clump of brush and a few good rubs on the island. I picked out my tree and cut a few limbs. I returned in June to place a camera on the island and make sure all the new growth would not be in the way. I returned a month later to check the camera and only had 4 pictures of a doe. Sunday night I busted out the kayak and loaded up the stand and made my way towards the island. After such a dry summer the cattails had grown in on my already small path so it took me over an hour to get to it when it should have taken 20 min. I quietly made my way to the tree and set my stand up and settled in a little after 5. Around 5:30 I got fidgety and wanted to prepare for a shot just in case. I drew back and leaned forward as if I was taking aim. Just as I was letting down the stand shifted and I went grabbing for the trunk and hit the release just as I was almost let down. The arrow slipped off the string and landed 5 yds from the base of the tree. Readjusted the stand and got settled back in. Around 6:45 I heard the sound of a deer moving through cattails and finally seen them start splitting about 40 yds away. It made it just about to the island before I could see it was a doe. As she started munching on some leaves I was unsure of if I wanted to shoot and have a hard time getting her out. I get buck fever really bad (does included). It only happens when I know I want to take a shot. So for 15 minutes I was standing there shaking uncontrollably. I love that feeling but wish I could control it a little better. Anyway she made her way out of the brush and when she turned her head I seen that one of her eyes was glazed over. I've had pictures of this doe for the last 3 years and she has never had a fawn. This was the doe that I wanted to shoot for a few years now and this would be my best chance. She came into my opening but never gave me a shot and stopped at the base of my tree. She kept looking up at me (probably felt the tree shaking lol) did a few foot stomps and turned back. She then went up to my arrow that was on the ground and started sniffing it. She again bobbed her head and stomped a few times before taking a couple bounds towards the cattails but still in my opening. It was now or never. I drew back settled the pin and released. I knew right away I was a couple inches low but was right behind the shoulder. I watched as she headed into the cattails for 60 yds and heard the sound of her fall over. I gathered my things and had good blood the whole way. I drug her back to the island and went home and grabbed my boat to pick her up. It made for a long night but was well worth it to get my first deer beast style under my belt. I really appreciate Dan and everyone else on here for being so open with advise and information. My next step is to apply these tactics to a buck.

Congrats on the kill! How hard was it to pack all your gear and a deer on that little kayak. Ive been considering rigging my kayak up for bowhunting but have been pushing the idea away because it seems like it'd be difficult to pack everything out.

The way I read it he took the kayak home and brought his duck/bass boat to get the deer

Re: First deer beast style
Yes I did go home to get my duck boat. All of the spots that I've scouted for kayak hunts I am able to grab my boat if needed.
