found buck in bed
ok,
so i set out a trail camera on the edge of my property along a foot trail. I caught 3 trespassers on it in 1 week!
so, i went out to post the property and cut down some trees to block the path.
i was in a overgrown powerline clearing and I hear a grunt type noise-the best way i know how to describe it is a noise a boxer (dog) makes if hes upset.
so i look back and i hear it again. next thing I know i am staring at a sleek 8 pointer as good as any ive seen on this property in 8 years!
We have a stare down and then he trots off. I know exactly where he is bedding but bow season is 23 days away!
Think he'll still be there on the opener?
i found what I believe to be one of his rubs about 400yds away. he is bedding approx 60 yards downwind of a bike trail on the neighboring property. he is bedding where the trail turns in an overgrown power line area under a bush.
i will post a map later

Re: found buck in bed
You sure found a late summer or early fall bed. I say stay out of the area and hunt it opening day. You may have spooked him but he might come right back and use the bed again, especially if you have had some tresspasser traffic in there and he stuck around anyway. If he isn't there opening day then hunt the other beds on your property until you find him or its time to give the place a rest.

That's pretty common in most of lower Michigan.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

You might as well try it out. With all the activity like the bike trail and trespassers he might be accustomed to humans and he is smart and puts his bed where he has the upperhand being able to watch or smell what goes through there.

Re: found buck in bed
the buck was a good 2 year old for my area. it was interesting that he let me walk all the way around him then he got nervous. i cant remember if i stopped and that made him nervous or if he just grunted at me. it was like he was made at me for making him move.
when does the summer to fall territory shift occur?

The summer to fall shift varies....Im in WI and the shift has occured. Usually once the velvet comes off sometimes a week or two before.
With that said my friend observed a buck still on a summer pattern on October 15th although this is a rare occurance.

This buck was hard antler so hopefully he stick around for the next month or so. I plan on keeping tabs on him from a distance. I'll let everyone know updates

Re: found buck in bed
I would be very surprised if he is still there in 3+ weeks (hope I'm wrong). The bed would be worth hunting to see what happens though.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: found buck in bed
If you think you know where he is bedding I would get in there and hunt him tonight, if he isn't there then start the glassing.
