The reds here in my area are dropping now, small acorns though, and the whites are really sporadic, some have them , some dont.

Most of the whites are down and very small. Haven't seen too many reds so far on the ground.

Whites and reds have been dropping about 4 wks in S. Il. We had a little wind from the hurricane in N.O. and there are white oak acorns everywhere I went today. Lot of them are small, but some good ones also. Too many.

I was out shooting yesterday and was being pelted by them in my backyard. They are falling pretty hard, more Reds than Whites. In Central Illinois the whites are really starting to fall. Not sure if I like it or not this early. Our season doesn't start until the 1st and I won't be able to hunt until the 13th. I always do better when the acorn crop is light and the corn is out by then. I was scouting this weekend and hanging a few last stands and was surprised that we had some 8 foot corn on the farm in the valleys.

Hey Hoyt, where are you out of in S. Illinois? Just got an invite to hunt Williamson county on a very good piece of land that no one has hunted since I was down there 4 years ago. Wondering how the bucks are looking with the drought.

Whites and burs are on the ground an eaten by now. I checked my best oak savannas a month ago and the acorns were on the ground.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I wouldn't put much stock in internet acorn reports. Even locally, there can be big differences from spot to spot.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

Were I am at we had a bad drought and the acorns on ridges seem to be hurting, but the ones down by the swaps near water are doing great.

Here in central pa weve had a pretty normal summer, maybe even above normal for rain. I was in a park the other day with oaks and they were raining. The ground was covered and there were at least 6 squirrels in the area going to town.
