GAME: Where would the buck bed?
Let play.... where would the buck bed. This is a setup Ill try this fall. I found the bed and have almost enough info to hunt. The 2nd image is a close up.
See if you can find where he would bed, why, ideal winds to hunt, access route for me to get to the bedroom, and where he most likely comes from in the AM.
Thats all I know, feel free to add what your personal opions/observations are.
This is a flooded patch of hardwoods off a stream dammed by beavers. woods ducks love it, thats how I found it.
Ill give some time and then Ill say what I found. Thanks.

The land is flat. The topo shows nothing but where the stream is, which you may be able to pick out in the images.... thats part of the game!
Ill show what I found and my plan soon enough....

Re: GAME: Where would the buck bed?
I'll try. The path from the North is the path he takes in the AM back to bed. He beds on the point with the stone wall to the E. The predominate wind + creek to the SW and the thick cover to the E create a thermal tunnel letting him wind everything in the immediate area. He can hear anything coming from the E because it's so thick. Multiple escape routes provide him security within a few bounds. To hunt him in the AM, access from the S 2 hours before first light and hunt somewhere along the stone wall, depending on if you're hunting from the ground or elevated.

Excellent attempt. Some things you stated I beleive are true, but 1 thing I should tell you is there is no stone wall. What you see is a ditch filled with water, and all of those woods that are discolored is water also. The East side is more dry then the west and very thick. Hip boots are required for access.
Another try or 2 and Ill post my map and plans for the hunt.

Ahah! See if I had the exact location, I would have zoomed in with Google Earth and set the date back to a winter month to see the details better. Here in MA that would have been a stone wall for sure. Classic set up for around here. Looking forward to some of the other players guesses. Love these things. Always learn a ton.

Re: GAME: Where would the buck bed?
I think he is very likely bedding along that dredged ditch where they dumped the spoils creating a high and dry area. I see this alot in the swamps in Wisconsin. The bed (or beds) are likely any wind beds (based on my assumption that the vegetation is super thick around that ditch and probably gives him limited visibilty). He can rely alot on his hearing to protect him in that spot.
yellow=likely beds
blue=stand
white=your entry trail
hunt this spot with a SW or S wind

Re: GAME: Where would the buck bed?
The 2 that tried did great! The entry routes are perfect as I will follow a stream (in it at times) to get back to the flooded timber. Klemz nailed the stand sight. I wouldnt be able to get on any other side quitely. The area outlined in blue is usually water in the fall, anywhere from 2 inches to 2 feet. The W side is the deepest, the E side is the thickest. The brown "bench" is the high spot, and the red dot is where I saw the bed. It was a large impression and appeared to be used often and was bare dirt. Thanks for playing.

Re: GAME: Where would the buck bed?
Quick update... its been a sloooooow season for me, havent had much time, but it aint over yet!
I found this buck on the creek very close to this potential bedding site. I had planned to hunt, but with the drought the beaver pond was dry, and no sign of a buck living in there.
Walking the creek shooting wood ducks and came upon this. Public land and scored just under 150".
I beleive this buck died from the gnat disease... weve all found NICE buck dead by water.

Cool thread.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
