When do you do your doe killin?
I've always tried to get a doe or two down as quick as possible to get some pressure off, get meat in the freezer, get some good practice in, and most of all its just plain FUN! I'll also shoot one later in the season if possible, but almost never during early November.

I do the same thing. I try to get a doe in the freezer early in the season. Typically, I will hunt doe areas in the AM and buck areas in the PM in the early season. Those bucks just seem to get back to their beds too early for me early in the year.

Typically I hold out for snow or with a rifle when I can crank them in a field.

Haven't shot a doe in 30+ years, in the remote northern areas we hunt the deer density is very low, no need to kill does. Besides the wolves and other predators, and the bad winters, keeps the deer herd in check.

I try to get it done before November 1. That is usually my goal. However, I have arrowed a doe as late as the last hour of the 3 month long hunting season.

I'll shoot a doe at any time, never bothers me, you can educate a buck just as easy opening day as during the rut.

Re: When do you do your doe killin?
I used to say I would shoot them early if I had a chance but then I discovered that very early in the season was prime for seeing mature bucks.
Thats fine since I don't really care to shoot many does anyway. The population around here has been low enough that I didn't want to be part of the problem. Last time I targeted a doe was 5 years ago during EAB and haven't even tried to shoot one since. Maybe this year I will shoot one if I feel the population looks better. Problem is hunting buck bedding areas I rarely see does anymore. Guess that is a good problem to have as long as I am seeing good bucks on a regular basis.

Re: When do you do your doe killin?
There are some places I used to hunt that finding a buck of much size is really hard to do. This is due to the density being so high. The deer are everywhere. I will sometimes go here with the intentions of shooting a doe.
Not a place I try to buck hunt anyway, but I have shot them all season long, just depends on where I am, if am hunting a buck or not.

Re: When do you do your doe killin?
Depends where Im hunting. If Im out back, Ill shoot the first one that gives me a shot(rarely get a deer in range). If I go on the early doe hunt, Its up at the private land in the thumb. With all the neighbors shooting every buck they see, I look at the early doe season as a way for me to educate the young bucks to head for cover, the hunters are in the woods. I havent seen that its helping any though.

If I have a doe tag in my pocket, it is getting filled as quickly as I can. But i will shoot one anytime the season is open.

Re: When do you do your doe killin?
If you are killing does in your buck killing spots how are you going to kill a buck, gutting a doe? Live does are a good decoy, dead does are a good deterrent.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: When do you do your doe killin?
Any chance I get from October to December, as long as it's not at one of my buck spots. And I won't target any does during pre-rut/rut.

ASAP if I have to.
It's not a problem, it's a opportunity for a solution.

Re: When do you do your doe killin?
I will take a doe, depending where I am hunting anytime I have a chance. Just is not worth the effort getting her out in some spots anymore. Must be getting old.
