Re: Stanley
Sounds pretty similar to the stories most of my mentors have told from those years. Good stuff!

Re: Stanley
Very interesting history Stanley!
I really enjoy hearing stories from way back when just seeing deer was a challenge. Makes me appreciate what we have now even though we tend to complain more than we should. Hunters back in those days truly were diehards and have all of my respect.

Hickman, right on the Mississippi river.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

You know that was just how it was, we thought nothing about not seeing a deer, any deer. My dad was a rural carrier for the post office. He ran country roads 6 days a week for years. Only a couple times did he come home and say he saw a deer. The numbers were just so low you just didn't see one.

Re: Stanley
Stan your story has a similar path as mine. i hunted for 8 or 9 years before i saw my first buck. saw my first deer while hunting in 1966 or 1967 in mississippi and it was a doe. hunted for four years in OHIO before i saw my first deer. that was from 1972 to 1976. when young guys cry about deer numbers i just roll my eyes and tell them they are spoiled by the years of inflated deer populations. i dont think anyone under fifty years of age really knows how few deer we had.
