Re: You arrow aiming point?
Id shoot black, although its a bit low for where I stare. I used to crowd the shoulder, but rarely got pass thru's cause I was breaking legs. I know a guy who does well on large bucks and he purposely shoots em back and up a bit. So imagine between the black and red, but up a few more inches. He double lungs em every time with that shot and doesnt have to worry about shoulder shots. In fact look at Martys post, this guy puts his arrow right where the lable for lungs touches the lungs.

Black or pink, or somewhere in between the two.
Any of those shots would be fine. The red is a little back, but if you hit dead on where you are aiming it is still good.

I agree GrFox, black/pink angle is the best in my opinion. I shot one in the pink a couple years ago and he broke off my arrow and sent it flying. He bled out like all heck though. I think a line from the black to pink is where I most like to aim and hit.

X2. it also affects locomotion. i always use the front leg as the windage point on broadside deer. the red dot has too much of the tendency to become a liver or gut hit if the shot gets pulled. for whatever reason i hardly ever see shots too far forward.
Plus...........deer tend to step foward no backward.
If your already at the back of the vitals and a deer steps on you...not good.
I agree. I've had that happen to me too many times in the past Zap. I spent many a day tracking single lung/liver deer and it can be very frustrating. I started aiming up closer to the shoulder a few years ago and have been happy with the results.

Re: You arrow aiming point?
Between the black and blue is where I aim. Red is too close to the guts/liver, pink is too low for my likings (not enough room for shooters error). Black is probably the best aiming point. I don't know about everyone else but normally a buck will not provide the perfect shot. The shooter must adjust accordingly.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: You arrow aiming point?
Since that deer is looking right at me I would aim for the pink dot in case he jumps the string or best case wait till he looks away and aim right on the black dot.
I seem to tuck the arrows right on the edge of the shoulder so that is the main reason why I shoot Muzzy's. Killed quite a few thru both shoulder blades. The furthest back I ever hit a deer was in the liver and happy to say I never hit guts. (knock on wood)

Red is smack dab in the center of the ribs.....back, but still vitals.
I'd shoot for the black, unless he's quartered away.

Re: You arrow aiming point?
I used to shoot at the red and when I hit good on a broadside/quartering away deer it was lights out, quick. The variable that hurt me was slightly quartering towards shots. Although I do not knowingly take those shots, those shots do happen because slight quartering towards shot can be hard to perceive. On those types of shots I was hitting a single lung/liver and it was tough. That is when I slowly started to move my shots forward and down a bit.

Re: You arrow aiming point?
In this particular situation (deer on full alert and looking at me) I would aim pink, especially if I was shooting traditional. At the sound/sight of the shot, I expect the deer to duck and move forward before the arrow makes contact, putting the arrow in the black or red zone. If the deer was looking away, or forward, inside of 30 yards and shooing a compound, I would aim black. You have to be completely aware of all of the factors involved in any given situation and adjust accordingly.
