What is your minimum

Unread postby FRH » Thu Jun 14, 2012 5:25 am

Do you set a minimum score for a buck? I've been looking for something 140"+. Although if a 5+ yr old came by I'd probably be more than happy to take him if he had a gnarly looking rack.

I don't really set a number. If a buck tickles my fancy I will usually put an arrow in him. I usually have some bucks on my hit list sometimes I get them sometimes I don't.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

There is no Score Minimum. I shoot for a mature deer, but that doesn't prevent me from changing my mind. Eye of the beholder!

I want to say 150"..... I have a couple bucks under my belt @ the 140" mark, so I'm hoping to step it up a little, but if I don't, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. I know there is a couple bucks around my land that would go 150", but it comes down to them cooperating with me..... lol

All public this season so my standards are a bit lower than usual. 115 to 120 minimum....This is usually a 3.5 or better where I hunt. Don't have a passion to shoot 2 year olds anymore...

I usually stick to 130" minimum but may lower my standards slightly this year depending on what I see earlier in the season. Haven't killed a buck the last few seasons and I am getting an itchy trigger finger!

Yep we public landers don't get too caught up with numbers, if he looks good enough I am taking him. Just as a general guideline I want something close to 120ish but have no problem shooting something smaller if he walks by.

I don't get it...You want something 140, but if a 5 y/o came that would be OK? Wouldn't you think a 5 y/o would be at least 140? Or are you saying the 5 y/o's in your area don't reach 140?

I am in line with what Dor said.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

I will wait for at least a 3 year old buck also. But if it doesnt have the rack, i'd have to let him walk, which i should just be doing with all 3year olds, but when i see bone.. muahaha i can be as picky as i used to, but with the loss of good land, i'm searching for bucks that don't exist on land i an hunt.

I have been trying to hunt with age being the bench mark and not score the last few years. I am looking for a 4 1/2 or older buck to put my tag on.
