Re: 2012 Hunting Vacation
I could never take that many days, my old lady would KILL ME as she would be left to use all her vacation when the boy gets sick.
I have off the whole first week of november and this coming monday for turkeys.

Re: 2012 Hunting Vacation
2013 I am considering taking my vacation the first week of season. Being that I hunt 100% public my thoughts recently have been to get them before the pressure.

Re: 2012 Hunting Vacation
Taking a hard look at my schedule and this year is going to be interesting. I have plenty of time off but baby #3 due late summer so any extended hunting trips will have to be shortened up. I will likely spread everything out a bit and stay closer to home this year. Maybe take some 3-4 day weekends or hunt hard the week before rifle season opens. Lots of hunts planned with my 4 year old too.

Re: 2012 Hunting Vacation
I don't plan to go out of state this yr... So some of that will be family Halloween time etc... If I get lucky and kill two bucks with a bow in WI I might try 2 sneak in a Missouri gun hunt

Bucky - Do you plan to bowhunt during gun season? I'm asking b/c I believe with EAB gone you can only kill one buck a year bowhunting even in CWD units. A second buck with a bow would have to be during gun season.

Re: 2012 Hunting Vacation
Bucky - I was wrong about extra bucks in the CWD zone. According to this DNR news there will be a "bonus buck" program in the CWD zones.
http://dnr.wi.gov/news/breakingnews_lookup.asp?id=2361
"CWD Management Zone
The deer season in the CWD management zone will be the same as in 2011. Hunters expressed mixed opinions to the department on the desirability of a four-day October gun hunt, with hunters both for and against this early gun hunt. There will be an October antlerless-only deer gun hunt Oct. 11 – 14.
CWD management zone archery and gun hunters may again harvest either a buck or doe as their first deer. If hunters wish to pursue additional deer including antlered bucks, they will be able to do so under what is now being called the Bonus Buck opportunity, which replaces the Earn-a-Buck terminology. The rules have not changed, so additional bucks may be taken as long as the hunter first shoots an antlerless deer and receives a Buck Authorization Sticker when they register the antlerless deer. The hunter may also qualify by bringing in an antlerless deer with the extra buck at the time of registration."

MM - if I tag out in non CWD Unit.... I will then hunt the CWD Unit with bow. I may hunt CWD Unit exclusively with gun too...

Things fell through with Cobequid... But Dan offered to take me with his group to Minnesota on a bear hunt. So this year I think I'm passing on the bears. It is all good though... As Phil Robertson on the Duck Commander says, "happy, happy"!

Re: 2012 Hunting Vacation
Wow you guys have some sweet vacation time available. I on the other hand have trouble getting away for an entire week at a time much less two or three weeks.
I'll end up doing several 3 day weekends and then take off all of gun season (9 days).
