Spring Meeting this Monday
anyone going? I am going and I am going to write up a proposal. I am going to propose to get rid of having to wear a back tag while huning. WI is one of only a few that require this anyone. Many states have done away with it.

I have been pretty busy... Monday would be tough. Good luck on your proposal. I agree with getting rid of them. I know that some anti-hunters take down guys tag numbers and call them in for things they didn't do... Heard of some peta people doing that.

I agree that getting rid of backtags is long overdue. Wearing them on your back is nothing but a big pain in the but between forgetting to switch to different jackets, making noise rubbing on tree bark, hooking on backpack straps for your stand, and on and on. I even lost a few when the holder pin came undone. This would be a very welcome law change.

I'm in Washington Co. so it's at the county fairgrounds. I looked up how to get a proposal brought foreward and found out it is only for my county? if this is true. I hope it can go to a vote and work it's way to other counties. for those of you who agree with me on this and live in a different county, please do the same if you feel strongly about doing away with the back tag. thanks and have a great Easter.

Yes, this is the electronics age and going paperless/green is not only the trend but is prudent in the scheme of things.

Re: Spring Meeting this Monday
Just so everyone is aware, this years hearings are different than in years past (at least how I understand it). There will be no voting on anything this year. This hearing is to be "advisory only" Part of the recent changes to the DNR include only allowing input from the Conservation Congress to go to voting every other year. Hence no changes or proposals will be voted on this year, this is to be an informational/advisory only meeting. At least that was my understanding of the changes administratively made over the last couple of months. I could be wrong in my interpretation of the changes, they are written in legal/politician speak.

I bet you didn't know they are relatively disease free. They do not carry parvo virus, distemper or rabies. Their body tempurature is too low.
They are actually an excellent animal to have around your property because they eat rats, mice, snails, slugs and insects.
They also eat over ripe fruit that has fallen to the ground. They are called "omnivores" because they eat meat as well as vegetables and fruit.
Opossums are often mistaken for rats. They are not rodents, they are marsupials so they are related to the kangaroo.
They are not aggressive toward humans or pets but they will attempt to defend themselves if cornered.

I thought getting rid of the backtags was already in the works??? Maybe Rancid Crabtree can shed some light on the issue. He is pretty up on this stuff

Re: Spring Meeting this Monday
The DNR was ready to do away with back tags until the shooting a few years back when the six hunters were killed. The back tag number help in that incident but i agree that they need to go.
