What happens if a buck doesnt loose his rack
ok so I have a quick question ive been seein this buck constantly and he hasnt lost his rack and the other night it looked all deformed for the first time like it was growing from the bases but the old rack was attached to the ends. It looked like he was growin new main beams with his old rack still attached. Isn't it still a lil early I never see bucks this early growin. Has this ever happened before. He looks to be a possibly a 3 year old this year and his rack might of been a 110 inches this past season.

Sometimes a doe will have antlers and never drop them.
Or they stay in velvet like form.
It's rare but people have harvested a doe with antlers.

Most of the time it's caused by an injury to the deer. I know the buck know as "big nasty" from illinois had something wrong with either one of his hoofs or a testical. They say he never lost his rack or came out of velvet but kept growing.

Right on keep me posted. I'm curious what happens to the buck. Hopefully he stays healthy enough to stay alive and for you to harvest in the long run.

It is very rare for a buck to not shed his antlers. It isnt very rare for a buck to still have antlers now. It actually isn't that rare for a buck for have antlers into april. I have seen that bucks start just sprouting typically in early april though, but this definitely varies from deer to deer and from location to location.

Agree. I can think of one buck about 5 years ago that was still carrying the 1st week of April. 2 weeks later I saw him dead on the side of the road, got hit by a car. He had shed his antlers previously sometime and had already 2 Inches of new growth. I was bummed. This buck was a 150's buck the year prior as either a 3.5 or 4.5 year old.moondoondude wrote: It isnt very rare for a buck to still have antlers now. Interesting topic keep us posted on that buck if you can.
Im one of the very lucky few who have gotten a doe with antlers. She was a 5 pointer running with a basket 8. We flipped her over and she had no testicles. We were shocked. We couldnt figure it out. Then we gutted her and found one ingrown testicle which must have produced enough testosterone to grow antlers. I talked to the wardens about this deer and they told me about 1 in 8,000 does will have testosterone to have antlers.

Had a doe in velvet at the butcher this year. She was a 3 pointer.
Other times the situation the OP is talking about can come from an injury or a damaged or undecended testicle.
