Cool Hill Country scouting trip today with a special meaning

Unread postby virginiashadow » Mon Mar 05, 2012 11:51 am

I took my son scouting today to reward him for some things he has done recently. After we began scouting I realized that we were going to walk past the tree in which I arrowed my first deer 10 years ago. I had my son stand by the tree and it made my heart feel heavy.

Great stuff.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Took my son last Sunday. He helped me drop a pre set. He was finding the rubs and trails and pointing every pile of deer doo doo in the county. he wants to go again he said 'dad that was cool' do I have a scouting buddy now. He's funny he said dad give me your harness I'll drop that stand for you. I laughed and said don't worry in a few years you'll be dropping all my stands.

Not sure if I can say this on the beast without in being deleted, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

Thanks Ninja. We sure would love to have you. You could teach my son and daughters a ton of stuff that I can't do in/out of the deer woods. Heck, I want to kill a Kentucky buck!!!! :)

Another Beast in the making, I see. That first pic is awesome, with the thumbs up and the neck compass. 8-)

Thanks SB, he is an absolute natural with a compass. I on the other hand am not. :) He is going to have more deer knowledge by the time he hits the woods as a teenager than I did after 10 solid years of hunting. I was a complete dufus in the deer woods from age 18-28 or so. The only thing that helped me kill deer was that I was stubborn and can push through being tired.
