Is the mild winter spreading out the deer herd?
Im wondering if a mild winter spreads out the deer herd. I think this because if there is more browse and other food available maybe they would be more dispersed and not sitting on one source in large groups due to alot of snow. I thought about this because I checked my camera last weekend and quite a few bucks had lost both of their antlers. However after walking 4 miles this weekend I didnt find a thing. Im a little confused because in years past I would find quite a few at this stage in the shed process. Maybe if they are more dispersed this winter that would be a reason to finding so few sheds? As of now two sheds after 25 hours of searching. In past years I averaged one shed per 1.5 hours.

I too believe the mild winter kept the deer from yarding up. I think finding sheds will be tougher this year.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I agree, in past years I have seen the deer in my area herd up during the cold winter months.
It's like spring time right now. As I travel the country roads I occasionally see two or three together.
Odd weather for sure!

My buddy and I usually pick up 60+ sheds a winter... Right now we are way down from past season... Deer are definitely not herded up this winter here in WI

You're right on. My brother found 50 sheds last year and is struggling big time this year because the deer were/are dispersed throughout the woods.
Shed hunting is tough even when they're yarded up let alone with a year like this.
