So for those of you that set up on bedding areas or pattern a buck and try to set up to catch him... How many in a season do you typically see or how many encounters will you have but things don't pan out? What usually goes wrong? Does he get up and head the other way? Maybe he wasn't in there to begin with?

Re: How Many in a Season?
well this is going to be my first real try at marsh hunting so i cant say ive had a successful hunt yet....but ive been hunting hill country like this for some time know and even before i knew about infalt.....theses past 7-8 years ive set up on countless beds and have seen countless bucks, and have shot a couple using this method...either they were to small and i passed on them , or i messed up and didn't set close enough and they come out as im walking out or they come out and just sit there and look and look and look then at closing they finally move my way..... i would say i have 2 dozen buck beds to hunt in western Wisconsin, ...out of those 2 dozen beds, i would say ive seen about 8-9 bucks a year.....probably 4-5 of those bucks are shooters TO ME IN MY EYES.......

I'm new to to actually trying this method too... This past season I set 5 times on suspected bedding areas... Only one of those attempts I new there was bedding and had a small 6 point come out... It was cool but definately not what I was looking for... The other attempts were a bust but I was just taking an educated guess that it was bedding and it could of very well been but without knowing for sure I may of just set up wrong or not close enough

Re: How Many in a Season?
Dan I remember you saying you hunted 6 days a week up until you shot your buck... So besides that buck and the buck you didn't recover how many encounters did you have with other targeted or nice bucks? How often is it the buck you expected to be there? What usually happens that you don't get a shot?
Do you have any idea what the answers would be to these questions from Andrea?

The marsh by my home used to be real good to me... I used to see a few bucks a week, now it seems like I see a few a year. This is because of pressure and population decrease.
This year I saw about 5 different bucks bigger than 130. I shot two of them, recovered one. Two bucks, a 3 y/o and a mature buck got past me out of range a couple times. I had about 6 young bucks come into my set ups that I passed on. Early season was rough on me this year with only a couple opportunities.

Set up on the same bed 3 times this year. Blew him out getting too close one time, he wasn't there another time and the other time he came out and milled all around me but just out of bow range the whole time.
