Sam little off your topic but 25to 30 years ago we had a My Ubl in our deer camp.I was only 13 or 14 then ,but just curious if that was your dad or other relative. There were alot of older hardcore hunters in that group and enjoyed some of the stories they told. One of the group was a good friend of Fred Bear and had hunted with him.He owned his own plane and had done some fly-in hunts with him.

My Avatar has to do with my good friend ( and cousin ). He had this buck on his trail camera about 15 times last year.. To make a long story short, he did not get the buck, but the neighbor did during gun season.... We heard it scored like 163", but I did not see it in person... My friend was just praying he would see this big boy during bow season, but, like so many big bucks do, he dissapeared. Anyway, I just thought it was a really cool picture he got of him, so I decided to use it for an Avatar.. Maybe this year I will have a buck on my own trail camera that will be as big or bigger than this one and I can put it on here for my new Avatar..... Wishful thinking anyway...

163 is low imo.

That buck looks a lot bigger than 163... You sure the neighbor shot the same one?

boy, if it's not the same I would be really surprised, only because the pictures my buddy have of it showed a little kicker coming off the back of the left beam I believe, and another friend of mine seen it registered and they said it had a broken off kicker in the same spot.... I will see if I can get any pics of that buck from where it was registered, I know they had some of it..... but I know when we were comparing my buddys pics with the picture of it dead, all the tines looked identical...... Maybe the neighbor wasn't completely honest with what it scored too, I don't know them very well, so not sure on that.....

From what I see, there are 2 identical droptines and one straight and long tine sticking backwar by the base of the G2. Deer looks like a 190+

Either way, gorgeous.

Sam, those are not droptines..... That picture is when he was shedding and he also has some briars or some sort of junk hanging on them.... He was just a clean 10 pointer, well, other than the sticker that broke off the backside....

Damn...I just seen this thread....LOL Sorry guys :)

The buck in my Avatar is a special one to me. Score wise he is my second biggest buck. He is of course a bowkill; I took him in 2006 on October 13. At the time, I had recently acquired access to a new piece of ground and did not know the trophy potential in the area. I found what I thought was an ideal funnel between a probable bedding location and a white acorn laden ridge. When I say funnel I mean FUNNEL!! The area is actually a steep 50 foot bluff that is U shaped and on the other side was a semi open field that kept the deer in a tall grass area that is next to the bluff. I went into scount on Oct 2 and could get no closer to my target area...A 140 class eight was feeding on acorns right near a tree I had targeted. I let him feed in comfort and used my binoculars to find my target tree and stand location. After acquiring my info, I backed out of the area and did not return until conditions were perfect. I remember that week well; On Monday, I heard the forecast of a major cold front coming into the area. It was the first good cold snap of the year and I had a gut feeling that it was the day to be in the woods. Unfortunately, like a lot of you guys I work an 8-5 M-F job and don't get out out to hunt as much as I would like too. The cold front was forecasted for Thursday of that week and I "came down Ill that day" and could not make it into work. :) I knew it was the day so Idecided to spend the entire day in the tree. Yup, before daylight until dark that night. That day was really windy blowing the cold front right through the area. Once evening came, the cold front blew through and high pressure skies took over and conditions were cold and dead calm. I knew the deer would move but I ad no idea what I was gonna encounter next. 4 minutes before legal shooting time ended, he decided that he was safe enough to exit his bed on the hillside thermal tunnel zone and proceed through the funnel where I sat and waited. He came into a shooting lane at 28 yards and I shot him quartering away. He crashed in the brush and I could not believe how fast it all happened! My buck was a main frame 10 point with several nontypical stickers coming out the back side of his antlers. All in all he was a 13 point that grossed 154 inches.

The area I described is now my main hunting area; it has produced some awesome bucks for me and several that have given me the slip. I know know this place like the back of my hand and all of the bedding areas as well. Hopefully, I will take another giant on this place this coming season. I have several on my "hit list" that I am gonna try and focus my efforts on. I know where they sleep in the early season and I am confident that I will get one of them. Thanks for the interest in my buck guys :)
