Scouting MFL

Unread postby BigHills BuckHunter » Wed Feb 22, 2012 6:13 pm

I just purchased the Southern Wisconsin all outdoors field atlas. Its really interesting because it tells you where MFL is. I had no idea I had so much MFL close to me. I found a really good looking area thats MFL Open. I will be scouting on foot in a few weeks. Topo and food sources look promising. With Open MFL This means I can hunt it even though another land owner technically owns it. If Im wrong please correct me. I was wondering how many of you hunt MFL and what the pros and cons are? Dan or SPY did you ever hunt MFL?

Make sure you know the properties are still in the program!! I was doing some scouting with B.S. about a month ago and he had this book. I had a print out from the DNR and there were atleast 2 properties that were no longer in the program. What I would do is check the DNR website and get a list of all the MFL,FCL .and the voluntary programs. Also I would bring a plat book to verify the property that's in the program. The DNR is currently updating the MFL&FCL and it won't be back up til March :(

Not sure if you can legally scout on open MFL... You may have to carry a gun and be "coyote hunting".

I have done some hunting on MFL, but not much.
