Do you think the bucks will have a little better jump on antler growth? Didn't have to navigate through 3 feet of snow to survive this year. Maybe we'll see some horses (not you Zap) out there this year.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I hope so and think you are probably right , but I can see the opposite too where the bucks may keep their antlers longer and thus have less time to grow bigger ones. I tend to agree with you though, either way it will save a lot of them from dying by winterkill, that is most important to me. I bet the turkeys will be big and fat this spring!

Been a mild winter here for sure. We don't normally get alot of snow but even tho, there's been above normal temps all the way thru winter and new growth in the fields for months. If it didn't help them it sure didn't hurt them.

It can't be anything but good for the deer and racks.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

I think it will help some but I think the biggest change will be in the far northern deer herds where they usually have much more snow.(northern WI, MI, MN) The deer up there have had it really easy so far this winter. (except for wolves)

This will be the third mild winter in a row for us in the UP. We are normally well above 300 inches a year. Should be exciting.

Been thinking about this also. Hopefully a healthier deer entering the spring will have a jump start. Mabey the does will produce more twins and even triplets. One worry is that it all might be lost if we have a dry spring , summer. I think it's in the works. It's pretty scary how dry it's been ,

I have been scouting far more than usual this year, from everything I have seen, the deer have wintered far better than I have ever seen. We usually have about 250 inches of snow per season and we are at less than 80 inches this year. The temps have been very mild. Food is readily available with little work to dig through snow....maybe this is the year I will finally get my 200 incher

And if followed by a favorable growing season, should help things along. Drought could negate a mild winter.

Lot of interesting thoughts.

I shinned the two bigest bucks on a chunck of property I can hunt with two smaller ones last night. All four bucks had their full racks. The biggest one dropped his last year on the 18th of Feb. They are holding onto them tight! Should be interesting to see what happens in fall!

We've had very little precipitation, snow or rain. I'm a little concerned we come out of this with drought like conditions which would be decidedly negative.

I think if anything, it will be good.
Not just for antlers but for deer overall.
Its simple. Less stress. That bitter cold and deep snow is extreme stress which effects deer in a lot of ways.
This year is the most mild winter I can remember in my lifetime. Granted I have only been on this planet for 25 years.
Needless to say, Im excited for when the antlers start to sprout.

If it bleeds, we can kill it . . . .

It might have the exact opposite effect that I want. I firmly believe my area has more hunters than animals, by a long shot. I was thinking, about one more poor season and we would drop quite a few guys who arent in it for the game itself.
I got a feeling, fawn recruitment will be high which in turn will cause elevated sightings, which will lead to a banner harvest in rifle season, possibly an over-harvest and the situation will worsen.
