I think it should be up to the parents to decide. I had my son with me scouting, recovering deer, watching me hang stands and shed hunting by the time he could walk. He was more than ready to hunt with a crossbow at 7. At 8 hes using a youth 20 gauge for squirrels and deer.
As long as an adult is right with them, I think its great.
