Reasons for not entering bucks into the P&Y record book?
Just wondering, most people don't enter the bucks they kill (guilty). Seems like most use the scoring system to gauge the bucks they kill but don't enter them in the book. Thoughts on this.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I would rank it like this
1: cost - no real benefit to doing it
2: secrecy - keeping your place off the radar
3: disqualification - due to equipment and being honest

Re: Reasons for not entering bucks into the P&Y record book?
I think it makes hunting a competitive sport, I hunt for my own enjoyment. I knew a guy who was all that, in his own mind. He became a safety course instructor then a scorer, just so he could get in other peoples business. I have run into a few other guys who score deer, and they had a know it all attitude. That seems to be the norm in my area, so it has put me off.
Also like jlh42581 said... I want to stay off the radar.

I would agree with these. No real benefit that I see.

#1. I am a cheap S0B. Don't see a reason to pay in order for my name to appear in the club's book.
#2. I use lighted nocks, and I try to be an honest person so my kills woudn't qualify anyway.

I should say, I do appreciate what P&Y does for archery and stands for as a group.
I have a signed copy of Glenn St Charles book.

Re: Reasons for not entering bucks into the P&Y record book?
u have become secretive only locally i guess. but at times i feel maybe a bit hypocritical only because i like picking up a magazine and reading a story of somebodys great success or looking over the score books to see what has been shot where. if nobody gave up there stories or pics/scores what would we be left with. we would have deer shows with no deer at them cause everyone is scared to show them, no magazines cause everyone is scared we might see what they shot and where they shot it, no score books for anyone to gauge anything . no records county/state world. ..... hmmmm might be kinda weird, would make it strange to say the least. i guess im glad eveyone isnt as paranoid as me(i probably have no reason to be either if im being honest with myself)

Re: Reasons for not entering bucks into the P&Y record book?
I've never actually held or seen a P&Y book.
I have no interest in simply looking at names and places where bucks were killed in a book. (I do enjoy seeing fellow hunters post pics and stories online.)
A phone book would be more useful to me and my name isn't in there either.
If I did enter a buck, bought a book and looked at my name in it, I can assure you it would not excite me one bit. Steve Martin finding his name in the phone book in the movie "The Jerk" comes to mind....
It's not a rare thing to kill a 125" buck with a bow anymore.

I've been a P&Y member going on 13 years (I joined In 1998). I shot my 1st P&Y animal In 2000. I didn't join to just enter animals, actually It had nothing to do with It. I joined to support a bow hunting organization that fights for our rights as bow hunters.

So can you become a member of the organization to support it without actually entering an animal?
Also never entered any bucks.lighted nocks would exclude some anyway. I don't get that rule anyway. It in no shape or form allows you to cheat in fact it might help save the animal going to waste because you seeing the hit and knowing you might have to back out.

I predict that rule will soon change because I am sure a lot of entires are being lost due to it. With that said, I am sure just as many entries are in fact taken with lighted nocks and lied about.

I entered my first, and it will also be the last. I was 17 at the time and thought it was cool, but now I could care less.
