Eberhardt listed it in his book back when it was published. I dont remember all the odds but it was hunters vs entries. I remember, your odds in a state like Iowa in relation to license sales were roughly 1:150 your odds in PA were like 1:5000

Obviously, the midwest is the place to be for trophy whitetails. However, this map is misleading. It doesn't factor in how many hunters are chasing whitetails in each state. I looked up the total number of deer hunters (gun, bow,and nonresident hunters) in a few states. Michigan and Wisconsin have about one million deer hunters. Iowa has a total of 250,000 deer hunters. So, Iowa puts up a ton of book heads in relation to the number of hunters. Wisconsin has a ton of book heads from pure saturation of hunters combined with outstanding deer habitat in all parts of the state. Michigan has saturation of hunters and still doesn't put up a ton of book heads.

Back In the day Michigan and Minnesota was one of the top states to kill a big buck. Both of these states along with Wisconsin were the top states. Minnesota and Michigan have fallen off of the face of the earth.Michigan has saturation of hunters and still doesn't put up a ton of book heads.

I like to hunt deer, so I live where the deer are.
