Here is a link that allows you to zoom in on the map.

Eberhardt listed it in his book back when it was published. I dont remember all the odds but it was hunters vs entries. I remember, your odds in a state like Iowa in relation to license sales were roughly 1:150 your odds in PA were like 1:5000

Obviously, the midwest is the place to be for trophy whitetails. However, this map is misleading. It doesn't factor in how many hunters are chasing whitetails in each state. I looked up the total number of deer hunters (gun, bow,and nonresident hunters) in a few states. Michigan and Wisconsin have about one million deer hunters. Iowa has a total of 250,000 deer hunters. So, Iowa puts up a ton of book heads in relation to the number of hunters. Wisconsin has a ton of book heads from pure saturation of hunters combined with outstanding deer habitat in all parts of the state. Michigan has saturation of hunters and still doesn't put up a ton of book heads.

Back In the day Michigan and Minnesota was one of the top states to kill a big buck. Both of these states along with Wisconsin were the top states. Minnesota and Michigan have fallen off of the face of the earth.
