Re: Sauk Beast!
It all started out when I got a picture of this deer in 2009 a nice 9 pointer. The pic was near a scrape by a large oak tree you can see from the road. Where the pic was taken I can almost see the tree from the house. Never saw the buck all year as I was hunting a different property where I had pics of a much larger deer.
I pretty much obsessed about that deer all year for obvious reasons passing up deer bigger than I have shot before hoping to get a crack this other buck. I only laid eyes on this deer when he had velvet on his antlers during a summertime glassing session.
The bow season came and went without a siting of either buck. Come gun season my obsession buck got shot by a neighbor during gun season and I began to focus my attention to the next year. Figuring I wouldn't have a chance at any other decent bucks.
In CWD land here in WI we have a hunt called the holiday hunt. That year I had only 1 doe so I decided to head out one evening during that hunt to a least go for a doe. The fog rolled in as I sat so I decided to do some still hunting of a field edge on to of a bluff. As I was hunting along a buck group stepped out 90-100 yds away led by several smaller 2.5 yr old bucks and the 9 being the last deer. As I clicked the safety off I had to get a closer look through my scope to notice the 9 had already dropped his right side. After that I hung it up for the year.
Fast forward to Mid October 2010 I put my cam back up on this big oak tree hoping to get a pic of the 9 or another deer we called the big 6
who in this picture is 4 yrs old and in this year gained the 7th and 8th point. But I also got a surprise with the 9 point he had grown a lot Once I got this pic I pulled any cams in the area and went in to scout mid day. I found an area with some huge rubs and a gigantic scrape. I hung a stand and waited for the first NW wind after Nov. 1. The next 2 weekend went by without a siting and I was fast approaching my deer hunting vacation for the fall of 2010. With several different deer I on my mind I took off and on Nov 2nd I was sitting in a tree far away from where this buck lived when I came inches from killing a different deer in the first 2 hrs of vacation. The deer below. (This is the only pic I have of this deer.
After I was busted by the doe he was following I figured that was my chance for the year. One of the next days I climbed up into the stand hung on the big that required a NW wind. I was all settled at noon and saw several deer right away. About 3pm I looked at my phone to see the time and looked up behind me to see the big guy coming 100 yds away. He was walking right at me until he got to the logging road that passed my stand. Once he reached that he started to parallel me and when he went behind a large tree I drew. When he came out 10 yds later I touched the arrow off just as he stopped to look downhill. That moment is what led me to this. I hope I didn't go too far off track with the other deer and stories but its kind of how it all went downad and it is a shorter version of the story without telling you my life story.....lol

Re: Sauk Beast!
Man that is a great buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.
