I know a guy that owns 120 acres near my northwoods public area that has seen and killed some old slob monarchs over the years. He's got a pic of a 6 year old 160s 14 point slob he claims is unkillable? He feeds year round and gets pics behind his house in summer then not again til rut. He then gets pics everyday through christmas time and that's when he sheds. A good chunk of his land is a private lake. Does this deer bed and feed on this guys land or is there a chance I could whack him on the public? I have hunted very near this area in the past, within a couple hundred yards. There is a swampy creek that goes through his property but I can hunt this same creek on public. Help!!

Re: Unkillable?
Short answer yes, it all depends on where he beds and what might work out for you on public land near by. A map would help a lot.

Re: Unkillable?
It sounds like he at least ruts off the property. I don't think the buck is unkillable whether you can kill him on the public ground is another ? though. I would say outside of the rut, if he is bedding and feeding on that 120 he probably doesn't leave it during daylight, so you won't kill him then. You would need to find where he is during the rut. He may have a secluded place where he hangs out & brings does, I would say he moves during daylight then 2 it's just a matter of where & how much that will determine how killable he is.

I don't think any buck is unkillable if you do your homework and have access to land the deer is seen on occasionally. They all slip up sooner or later. You just have to be in the right place at the right time. That's where your homework comes in.

Re: Unkillable?
I would say its likely he occasionally beds on the public. Finding the beds is a huge task, the next is determining the strike dates. Its doable, but odds are stacked against you. I would try, if I thought the land owner would be ok with it that showed you the pictures. I personally would have a hard time betraying his trust after he told me about the buck, unless he was ok with me killing it.

Re: Unkillable?
So many variables...
Possibly Unkillable by an lesser or average hunter - maybe.
I think it's different than Unkillable by a "hunting titan" of mature bucks
Just remember before a "titan" is actually recognized, he was the one in the 1st sentence - gotta start somewhere!
Enough history with the animal will increase the odds dramatically...
Without the luck/urge of rut - less chance...
I believe any animal is killable and it boils down to luck (right place - right time), experience and the knowledge of the animals habits...

Re: Unkillable?
He might be unkillable for you. But he might be killable for someone else. And it has nothing to do with your hunting ablility. Whoever has access to the bucks core area will be the one who can kill him. If you have 10% of his core area to hunt, then you have a 10% CHANCE at killing him. If he only expands his range into your area during the rut, your odds are even less.(or maybe more if you have the right funnel, and the right doe)
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

For me that would be the biggest hurdle. If him telling you was an invitation to try and hunt that buck, that's one thing. A lot of times, I'll think boy that animal is unkillable, but what I'm really saying is I need to raise my game. He trusted you with the info, so I think you need to clear that hurdle first.
So that said, if he's okay with it, now's the time IMO to get out there and really scout out the public you have access to and get the bedding/staging figured and see if you can make a high probability hunt on this animal. But in any event it sounds like it's a great area, if it's consistently holding quality.
