Re: 18 pointer / Erin, WI
Had this in my e-mail a few days ago but forgot to post. I was told it was shot by Holy Hill which is near Erin. They claim it may be the new blackpowder state record. Awesome buck and yes I did notice the marsh muck on his feet!!

It could be wear from the rut but body wise the buck looks somewhat small. Great buck. Does not appear to real old either.

Why wouldn't they gut that pig out before dragging him out of his swamp hole? Nice buck.

ruins the pictures and the meat.
you do not want any kind of dirty water inside your "clean" deer.
Where I hunt in the public marshes for MD sika deer the DNR actually tells you that you shouldnt field dress your deer until your out of the swamp/marsh.
You can't kill em on the couch

that makes sense I never thought of that. Now I know what to do when I shoot old mossy horns back in the swamp tomorrow! (only a little bit wishful thinking)

I always gut them out but now I am not so sure. There are the other reason guys said but it was a month ago that saw Dan said he uses a sled no matter what to drag the deer out so people can't see his blood drag and follow back to where he killed it, there by "stealing" a potential spot for the future. Gutting in the field would be leaving behind more evidence on a public parcel and a guy could easily see if is was a buck or doe.
That is something I have thought long and hard about since I read it. I have to weigh it out some more for private but I believe what he said changed my mind on public grounds. As far as pictures are concerned you can do all sorts of different things to make the pic turn out, even photo shop. I would have the mount on the wall and the pic in the scrap book so i would be less worried about he pic and more about the mount. Just my take.
Amazing frigging deer.
It's not a problem, it's a opportunity for a solution.
