Scouted out a big buck bed VIDEO & PICS of doe harvest
Had an opportunity to do some scouting over the weekend during the WI Antlerless Season, thought I'd share my find of a classic overlooked big buck bed less than 100yds away. It reminded me of Dan's "Marsh Bucks" DVD on his public buck bed close to the parking lot. My finding was the same scenerio, where all the hunters head to the big woods and overlook this small patch of brush. This spot will definitely be on my hit list for next season and maybe one late season sit in after Christmas.
Thanks again Dan for all your big buck expertise. Enjoy the video guys.

Also, finally got some venison for the table.
Odd feature on this deer... Archery wound?
Hmong Deer lab and soup...

Looking good.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Thanks everyone for watching the video and commenting.
Good to know there's several other Hmong beast brothers on this site. Diversity is a great stepping stone to learning new ideas.
Oddly enough only the right hind leg had the handle. lol
First off, thanks for your curiousity and asking. Not many do.
Hmong Lab ("Lab" sounds like "Laa" in English), is a tradition Hmong recipe. It consists of cooked ground venison, deer stomach, small intestines with lots of spices, seasoning and herbs. The Hmong culture doesn't let much go to waste when consuming deer.
Hmong deer soup, or the literal English translation would be "Hmong Sh*t Soup", is another tradition Hmong recipe. This recipe mostly consists venison meat, all/any venison bones, deer stomach, deer small intestines, liver, lung, heart, lots of lemon grass, spices, seasonings, herbs, etc.
This may sound all unpleasant but as the old saying goes, "don't judge of book by it's cover". I've had people of many ethnic backgrounds try both these and say it sounds bad but taste nothing like how it sounds. To sum it all up, these are the two recipes why most Hmong deer hunters hunt for deer and not trophies.
I'll have to share the recipe one of these days.

Sounds gross.
Guess not everybody would like eating crabs, oysters, cratfish, and other things like me though, either.

I didn't think it would be safe to eat stomach and small intestines with all of the bacteria. That goes against everything we were taught about safe handling when field dressing.

Re: Scouted out a big buck bed VIDEO & PICS of doe harvest
That is wild i am really glad I asked and more glad you shared an honest answer! That does sound disgusting but obviously if its a tradition and classic recipe I guess it still wouldn't be around if people were dying from it. Kinda makes me feel wasteful seeing that you are getting twice as much in your freezer after a successful harvest as I am.
Here's a few questions for you, how does one clean/prepare intenstines and stomach? And do the bones boil down or get ground up? I would totally try the soup if the digestive organs were left out.
I'd be REALLY interested in seeing the recipe...there is a recipe section here you know!

Nice find on the bed. Is it camera angle, or does this deer have himself forced into a corner where it would be easy to know where to place a stander and push him? Also how cool is this situation, you can just stop on the road and glass to see if he is in the bed before you set up to kill em.

Re: Scouted out a big buck bed VIDEO & PICS of doe harvest
I for one prefer my deer Laab 100% raw... And with back straps only... It becomes more of a rare dish and only certain cooks can prepare it perfectly... I sometimes tell others that laab is more like a salad dish because we eat it also with a lot of lettuce.. As for the soup not all are made the bitter way.. I usually leave out the organs when I cook it for my family... Tastes just like beef soup.. Our soup tends to have mostly the bones because the bones do actually get rid with some of the strong games tastes... That deer get from age... As so my parents tell me.. I also love making PHO with deer necks... (PHO=noodle dish)... Oh by the way... Don't forget the BEER...
