Need some Beast love
Shot a buck with the muzzleloader about 30 min before closing tonight. Tracked him about 300 yards. The blood was steadily dripping and in 3 different spots had pretty good spatters. The blood was very dark which leads me to believe it was a liver hit? He also laid down twice within this 300 yards. After the second bed I thought it would be best to back out and hope to find him in the morning.
Also called the DNR when I got home being the last day of the muzzleloader season and with the doe hunt starting tomorrow, thought I should let them know. They told me that because of the doe hunt if I am tracking him tomorrow and he gets up I can legally shoot him with my rifle OK? Really? I was pretty shocked to hear that. I took the local wardens # and going to call and confirm again in the morning. Anyone else know if there is any truth to that?

Re: Need some Beast love
I doubt anyone will try and trump what the DNR told you.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Good luck with the deer.
Bringing the rifle i would be super leery unless your local warden is on board with that. Like Zap mentioned ask for a name from the person giving you the rifle advice........because the warden may want to set them straight.

I agree with Bucky... But just in case your wrong about the liver hit, I would not go by what a DNR desk employee told you. Call the area warden and ask him. If your talking Wisconsin, pretty sure it would be illeagle for you to shoot a deer out of season. Good luck finding him.

Re: Need some Beast love
Called the local field warden on my way out this morning and explained to him what I was told and that I thought I was given some bad info. He confirmed that I was given wrong info and could not of shot the buck this morning with the rifle. Told him the woman's name I talked to. This isn't the first time I have gotten wrong info from someone at the 1 800 #.
After I explained to him what was going on he told me to bring my muzzleloader along and go ahead and take the buck down if it gets up wounded bad. He said he would rather me kill it than it live for the next couple days and just die and go to waste. Let me know to call him back if there were any problems and he would come out. Seemed like a pretty reasonable dude.
Anyways a second shot wasn't needed. I found him about 75 yards from where I backed out last night. Glad I backed out he couldn't have been dead for very long. try to get some pics on later tonight.
