Shed Bucks

Unread postby BackWoodsHunter » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:49 pm

Thought I'd start a thread for guys to post when their bucks are dropping horns. I got this picture December 2nd in northern WI. That looks like a naked base to me, I believe he shed his horns.

I have 2 days of late season bow hunting up there...I put in some hours with the smoke pole and had my pick of small bucks and does...the big one never showed though. I believe those sheds belong to a nice 6pt I passed with the bow. We got 5inches of snow up there on Saturday night. I won't be finding those sheds for awhile now

Wow BackWoods thats really early to shed. Earliest I have ever seen was just before Christmas.

Hope everybody looks closely before they shoot a "big doe" this late season. Heard of many mature bucks shot accidentally over the years.

My earliest for northwoods bucks is Dec 6th. By Christmas is about 50-50 holding vs shed.

With the late spring this year it may be worse for early shedding in the northwoods. Hate to say it but have seen it before.

I won't be able to hunt a lot until Christmas......hope "my" bucks are still holding.
