No Buck But Filled My Tag

Unread postby AC Rider » Mon Dec 05, 2011 2:04 pm

So after a fresh snow and freezing temperatures, I talked myself into filling my tag if a big doe happend to stroll by. I justified this because I had my daughter, Layne, up at the cabin and I thought the fresh snow would provide the perfect oppurtunity for her to track her first deer. Sure enough, right at quiting time, a big doe came by. I put an arrow into the top of her shoulder as she slightly quartered toward me. I was pretty high on stand so the arrow angled down into her good but did not exit. The next morning I showed Layne where the doe stood at the shot and said "you're the boss - go get her!" I stayed back and let Layne work it out. With no exit wound, VERY LITTLE blood and the tracks mingleing in and out of other deer tracks, Layne did awesome. We found the big doe about 150 yards later. Layne is on her way to being a through and through killer 8-)

Congrats on the big doe and having your daughter along. Its great having the kids along to join in the celebration.

Tell her congrats on her tracking job....good job. :)

Wait until she shoots her 1st deer, it will be an awesome experience.

No, I was in a hurry and just dropped her off with the meat guy without stopping home first. My scale wasn't at the cabin.

That's a great story!! We kind of did the same thing with my brothers buck yesterday when we tracked It. We tracked It until we could see It ahead and knew It was dead and then told my daughter and my 2 nephews to take the trail from here and find the buck. Off they went!!

Congratulation's on the doe as well!!

Great story.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Congrats on the doe and and even bigger congrats on getting your daughter hooked at an early age. I would have done the same thing as you! I hope you both get to share many more blood trails together!

Nice one AC, and Layne
