tims cwd slob

Unread postby tim » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:50 am

so i had tagged out in vernon county so i headed home as i was going on vacation with my wife to puerto rico. i had a day to spare so decided to head to my cwd spot on nov. 4th with stand on my back in the cover of darkness. i thought i was in the wrong tree as i hadnt been back there in a year and it was starting to get light. i had been in my stand maybe 15 minutes and heard a deer heading my way so i waited till he materialized to grab my bow. it didnt take long and i grabbed the bow when i seen that wall of tines come throught the brush i drew grunted to stop him and released. this all took place in about 15 seconds. i sat there wondering did that just happen. he crashed off and all was silent 5 seconds later. i waited an hour ,went over to the site of impact found only white hair but blood was sprayin out of him and there was plenty of it. i went 80 yards and jumped him and heard him crash off, i went 5 more yards and he crashed off again, i kept going giving the blood trrail and he sounded like he was dying. only the 3rd time i bumped him he took off for good walking only but i never caught up to him. i followe blood till it ran out then got a friend that has permission on more farms. after i showed him the trail we decided it would be best not to bump him any further and potentially into a giant swamp. my friend hunted the area that night and watched him rise out of that swamp 30 yards in and walk very slowly till light ran out. the next morning he hunted the same spot only to see coyoted everywhere.we decided to let the trailcams tell us if he was still alive and no pics for 3 weeks. fast forward to yesterday 11/26 he decided to check all his cameras and while near the swamp he decided to take a look where he last seen my buck on the 4th and all those coyotes and 30 yards from that spot was my dead buck. so here he is he is a typical ten with matching g2 kickers and 5 stickers at the base that are at least an inch for a total of 17 points. on a side note i left a detailed message with the dnr on the morning i shot this deer cause i new i was leaving town and if my friend recovered him i wanted it documented. so when i called the dnr they were more than happy to come out and register and tag my buck for me as a kill . thought id share a few different angles as pics never do justice .......

Wow! That is awesome. Congrats on a great deer. I'm happy he was found.

Do you have any measurements yet? That deer has some great mass and tine length!

That is an awesome buck Tim!! I'm a little confused though. As soon as I seen what your friend said I immediately thought for sure your buck was right over there close to where your friend last seen him. Why didn't any one go over there the after your friends morning hunt? :?

WOW, Huge.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.
