Mountain Man's Bow Buck
This year has been a struggle for me. I haven't had much time to hunt due to family obligations and I have only been able to get out on a few weekends. I was looking for something a bit bigger but given the limited time to hunt and being realistic about the situation I made the decision to shoot what I consider a decent but smaller deer by my standards. I’m not a big buck serial killer like a lot on the HB and I was happy to take this buck.
I shot this buck about a half hour before closing time on Nov. 12th. He walked by at about 10 yards. He had no clue I was there and I had a broadside shot. After the shot he ran about 40 yards in an arc around me and stopped. I thought I hit him well but when he stood there for a little while I started wondering it the shot wasn’t that good. I knocked another arrow because if he started walking he would enter an open area in a few yards and I could shoot him again at about 25 yards. Another arrow wasn’t necessary as he just laid down where he had stopped and died.
Field dressing showed that the arrow went through the top of the left lung and came out the center of the right lung.
After hanging him up at home I noticed he had been shot by someone else through the top of the back. The wound looked to be at least several days old. One hole was healing o.k. but the other hole had some stuff oozing out of it.
Here’s a picture of my entry shot next to someone else’s shot through the backstraps several days earlier.

Re: Mountain Man's Bow Buck
Congratulations on the nice buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Nice buck Mountainman.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

He got lucky and survived a close call, but there is no surviving an encounter with a Hunting Beast!! Congrats Magic.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.
