What a wild morning!

Unread postby Schultzy » Tue Nov 15, 2011 7:14 am

Saw In the neighborhood of 20+ deer this morning. Our 1st gun season (9 days worth) ended here yesterday at dark. 16 days of Muzzle Loader season opens after Thanksgiving. Anyhow saw 7 bucks this morning, 2 of which were shooters that I've had very close calls with prior. The one buck was the buck I hit a week ago last Friday. Had him with In 30 yards twice but couldn't get him any closer. I also heard a pretty good fight this morning east and south of me 100 yards or so. My brother and I are going to team up on this spot here In the next couple hours. Doe's bed In some downfall that's about 70 yards south and south west of me. My brother Is going to set up east of this downfall and I'm going to stay where I am. Hopefully one of these 2 bucks gets In range of one of us. They never trail In here when we see them. They just meander. One of these times It's going to work out. 2 of us out here might do the trick finally.

Here's a trail cam picture of the buck I hit as you can see his wound on top of his back In the spine. This Is the buck I had at 30 yard this morning.

Good luck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

It was an uneventful evening sit. Started off like crap. I've read where some people say that people should hunt more and put less time Into practicing. I proved that one wrong before the hunt. On my 3rd practice arrow before I left my string broke on my recurve as I shot. Scared the crap out of me. The shot hit the target In the leg. It took me 45 minutes to get my other string on and set up the best I could. My string wasn't set up perfect for the bow but It worked as time was no longer on my side. Today after I get back from my daughters doctor appointment I'm going to tune It up cpmpletely and have It ready for this evenings hunt If I get back In time today.

As for the hunt I got out at 3:00, a little late. My brother saw 12 deer, 2 of which were small young bucks. I saw 5, 2 young bucks. No big guys showed.

Thanks rack addict. Let me tell you, my patience gets tested. I do get very frustrated, specially when deer are In that 25 to 30 yard range. To be honest anything over 20 yards usually gets a pass.
