Does confidence = success ?

Unread postby dreaming bucks » Thu Nov 10, 2011 2:43 pm

Do you guys think that feeling confident in the stand equals above average success ?

I have had a very slow rut so far, & my confidence is not doing so well, but that got me thinking, maybe I need to be more confident that a nice buck is going to show this time out.

Tomorrow is a new day, maybe it's the day !

I think it helps to a degree... if you don't feel like it could happen it is hard to spend the time on stand IMO

Confidence is important. If you're not confident in your set up you get sloppy and make mistakes. At least thats how it is for me.

If I have a spot scouted out in the offseason and know a buck is using certain beds I am confident that I will see a shooter buck everytime I set up my stand otherwise I will not hunt there. Sometimes the buck rises from his bed early and other times I will not see a buck but I am still confident it is a good spot.

I think if you are no confident in your set ups you will have very little success.

If you are on this forum, I think you have a good idea of what you are doing. Thus, you should have some confidence in interpreting sign and hanging stands.

People buy the latest bows, releases, other equipment, etc. They are buying confidence.

Practicing builds confidence.

I wish I could bottle and sell it because I feel it is key.

I think so. Usually there's good reasons why we don't feel confident in a set. But not seeing anything isn't a good reason. I would just say be honest with yourself.

I have a set next week I'm going to hunt 4 days in a row. I am 100% confident that I will see a good buck out of that set, maybe 50% chance at a shot. That confidence has me trim the lanes in January and hand the stand the first day the park is open in September and stay the out of there till next week. That's what it takes.

But who's going to do this if you don't have confidence.

I can't hunt much this year but last week I had 2 virgin sits and had 3 shot opporunities at bucks 5 total shot opportunities. Nothing good but who's going to wait on a set till the right time absent that confidence?

I know a guy really sucks at hunting, always stealing my spots, he's successsful because he hunts like 80-90 sits a season. He believes it. He believes that if he puts the time in he'll get it done. And he gets it done.

I think so!!! I move around till I find a spot that I'm pretty sure a buck may pop out any moment or at least I hope so..

I wouldn't sit a set if I didn't have confidence in it.

More than often for me when its a set that I don't have a whole of of confidence in your I'm second guessing myself, that's when something good happens. It always comes when I'm least expecting it.

That's help even if that doesn't make everything.
If you know what you are doing, how can't be confident.
If you try new staff you should be aware and learn of the results.

No matter how good of a set up one has confidence can kick your but when your not seeing what your after. Confidence Is kicking my but right now after my encounter with that buck I hit on Friday morning. Even though I did everything right with where my arrow was going to begin with my confidence has taken a big hit. I told dad this the other night and he kept saying "Steve, you put the arrow where It was supposed too, the buck moved upon Impact". He's right and I knew this right away when It happened but It's still got me by the balls yet. Until I lay a double lung arrow In a bucks lungs this year this Is the way It's going to be until then.

Success can do wonders.

Confidence about particular sets always helps you spend time in the stand. However, if you are out there regardless in those sets I don't realistically feel that your odds are better or worse of seeing that deer; I mean, it's not like a deer can sense your state of mind. But like others said confidence can help keep things sharp, so that if something happens your aren't so surprised you screw up.
