Doe eats dirt.

Unread postby muddy » Tue Nov 08, 2011 12:54 pm

Went on a doe hunt tonight hoping to get my first longbow kill ever. Snuck into some private ground but the deer were already in the field. I got into a ditch and got within 80 yards of them and used a nice tree to my advantage and hung my sticks. I only used 3 and then got the Assault hunt nicely. Tied my ropes onto my bow and pack and inched into position. Tied onto the tree, got my bow hanger situated and here they came! I got my compound drug up quickly and loaded, my pack situated, and then grabbed the longbow and got ready. There were 2 adult does, 2 fawns, and a spike... the first one within range I was going to stick! Turns out one of the does came by at 15 yards and I learned that I have absolutely no business being out there with a longbow!! I shot under her!

She didn't know what happened but moved out past my comfortable distance and stopped, circled back, and sniffed my arrow. That was enough for me to grab Black Betty and settle the pin. I touched it off and my first "rage in the cage" moment was over with. Ultimately the broadhead did the job, she was down in seconds, within sight, and didn't even leave the field.

I followed the blood trail just for fun and found her in a perfect place to drive to, karma for Saturdays death drag I suppose. Perfect double lung hit.

Thanks again Rancid, I love this knife.

I've been meaning to get rid of the moldy pumpkins so this was a great time, I was tired of them rolling around the bed of the truck anyway.

Happy belated Halloween.

Good job Muddy.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

 Congrats on the Doe. Bummer you missed with the longbow, but thats what draws me to it. If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. 8-)

Yeah, I learned that I have absolutely no business out there with a longbow until I 1) take some poundage off my self longbow and 2) practice with it.
