my podcast question

Unread postby magicman54494 » Tue Apr 26, 2016 4:13 am

First of all I feel honored that I have been asked to do this. I have been tossing around ideas about exactly what to talk about. I guess the best thing to do is ask you beasts what you want to hear. I want to focus on tracking but don't know exactly which way to go with it. I could go into detail about gear, and the technical aspects or I could talk more about actual tracking stories and touch on observations about mature buck behavior that I learned by following them for years. I could mix it together as well but we are aiming for an hour long and anyone that knows me knows that if I do that it could end up 10 hours long. lol.
So... what say you?

A mix of the two or mainly tracking stories and observations of mature bucks would be great. Thanks for doing this!

1 - Differences between the areas you hunt.
2 - Opportunities each place offers / potential of each location.
3 - When you plan on hunting the big woods of NH.
4 - Who's your favorite Beast besides Hodag...
5- Past out of State hunts, N. Dakota?

I'd love to hear about mature deer and their behavior through tracking - I see lots of "big" tracks in the areas I hunt and am only now very slowly starting to put it together - because of hanging out here and listening/reading stuff like this!!

Mature buck behavior while tracking fascinates me. I would really enjoy hearing more about this starting with how you determine which track to follow each day. What are the main characteristics you look for to determine it is indeed a mature buck you are tracking.

I'm interested in tracking details. Especially regarding age (of the track itself) and how weather effects them. Also everything regarding best times to track... Time of day, time of year, best weather to track in, etc

And like Dewey said, how to choose which track is best to follow.

Definitely interested in mature buck behavior especially once they know you are on the track. What are your observations, specifically in relation to their movements related to the wind that day, what kind of cover do they gravitate towards, how often do they end up back in their original safety zone. Basically anything related to mature bucks affected by hunting pressure.

Properties of the track itself in different terrains and environments. Mistakes you made early on learning to track. Like mentioned above stories that lead into and lay out the topics and details you want to share are very entertaining to me, which is what allows me to hold my ADD at bay long enough to absorb a lot of info.

Maybe an episode of Deer Magic in remembrance of Dear Abby...?

Do a search for my post on Dear Abby, in case you're wondering how the great white Bwanna handles adversity!

I'm sure you have tracked many mature bucks all the way to their bedding areas.... I would like to hear about any similarities/terrain features that you have found in common with these big woods bedding areas. Can you tell that you are approaching a likely bedding spot as you are following the tracks? What have you learned from tracking that would help a bow hunter in the big woods? I believe you may have a totally unique perspective when it comes to tracking because you are also a student of the Beast. I look forward to this podcast!
