The Great Fiasco
Without a doubt this has been the craziest season I have ever experienced. I mean just a laundry list of crap gone south. Started out with trying to do the right thing and let a buck lay over night only to be completely devoured by yotes. Then I shoot a whopper buck and can’t find him. All along work keeps sticking it to me and I only get to hunt a handful of times the entire November. Im a November junkie!!! What’s next…. Oh ya. I had 2 close encounters with a big 9 pt recently that I couldn’t close the deal on. Then had a beauty of an 8 pt coming right to me and got pegged by a doe trying to get in position. It’s been a LONG, gut wrenching season for me this year.
I’ve been hunting hard for about the past week. Most of the time all day sits (even though midday isn’t very productive this time of year here) but just trying to up my odds anyway possible. What can I say I play odds. I don’t subscribe to the don’t pass a buck on the first day that u would shoot on the last. I hold out for something special as long as possible. When the odds are highly compromised against me I will shoot something I wouldn’t have earlier.
I actually passed up the buck I just shot twice in the last 5 days. Got him on video with my phone on Monday. Yesterday I hunted all dang day in the bitter cold with a stiff wind. Didn’t see jack squat! Came home dog tired with a bad cough. Felt like straight crap this morning but elected to go anyway. I had today and tomorrow to punch my tag before it was all over for me. I elected to shoot the first decent sucker I saw. To be honest with wind switching south and temps reaching near 70 (was a high of 14 yesterday) I didn’t have high hopes.
But low and behold that same 7 pt. came strolling right to me again. I knew instantly which buck he was and that he was gonna get it. Watching my arrow find its mark and seeing the buck drop in sight. Just made me feel all warm and bubbly inside. I’m happy with him. I gave it my best shot, made some memories, and got some meat for the freezer. Couldn’t be any happier!

It sounds like this season has been a grind. Congrats on the deer.

Congrats Boogie. Rough season but you never gave up. That’s all that matters. Great job.
I’m on my 8th sit in a row without seeing a deer. Haven’t had a streak like that for almost 20 years. All it takes is one. Gotta keep your head in the game.

Awesome job Boogie, I knew you were in it for the grind and wouldn't give up. Temps like you've been in last several days wouldve kept most close to that fireplace rather than a shivering treestand! Congrats brother

Oh man, 8 sits is brutal. I’m sure I’ve done more than once. But even 3 or 4 sits with no action can start playing mind games with me. Makes one doubt themselves and their system. Atleast it does me. It’s just the fact you do something long enough with a sense of purpose you realize it’s just a matter of time.
Biggest mind screw for me is a missed opportunity at a mature buck. Be it bad tree selection, missed shot, getting winded, or simply not your day. Those missed opportunities just burn my backside cause I know how rare they are.
