Michigan archery buck

Unread postby trob_205 » Sat Nov 13, 2021 8:08 am

This year started off with high hopes. A couple known target bucks and daylight activity on cell cams. I don’t get to hunt much in October due to work and time but I always take 2-3 weeks off in November. Mid October my cell cams are getting awesome activity until one day it was shut off like a light switch. After a couple days I got curious and drove to the property to find an emergency pipeline crew working in the field right in between two of the main bedding areas. Once I started hunting I got on my numero uno target buck (not a deer residing on this property, but historical data showing he was there at certain times) only to have him give me a 37 yard full frontal shot that I didn’t want to take. After that deer walked away I gave that spot one more sit and moved 15 yards closer, but no dice. Now I transitioned to my normal pre rut spots and just was not seeing deer and bucks like I normally do due to that pipeline project. Finally I went back to square one and by process of elimination chose a spot that normally heats up around the 11th of Nov and I was yet to throw a sit at this spot and it was a little farther away from that project. So on the evening of the 10th I setup and had an awesome hunt. Saw the homebody 3 year old that I had passed in a previous sit along with this 11 point I got 1 serious of pictures of in early August. Needless to say I was very surprised to see him in the field that afternoon, but I wasn’t complaining! About an hour after he worked off I got his picture on opposite end of that woodlot working back towards me. Right around that time the does started piling up in this field and a few bucks chased them off the field. After watching them all disperse and move on about their evening I heard some sloshing in the ditch and saw the rack of that 11 pointer crest the ditch line and working towards me. He gave me a 40 yard shot and I made it count.

WOW!
Love the hero pics; the contrast between the antlers and the pitch black sky really set them off.
Nice work; that really is an exceptional animal.
Congratulations!
