First buck with a bow
November 1, 2021, a day of many firsts for me.
First buck with a bow ✅
First deer on public land ✅
First deer shot out of a saddle ✅
I’ve shot deer with my shotgun, muzzleloader, and one doe with my bow growing up but I never really got into deer hunting. Fast forward to about 1.5 years ago when I was in Iraq on a yearlong deployment. I randomly found Dan Infalt and The Hunting Beast on YouTube and he changed my outlook and perspective on chasing deer. From then on I found myself going down an endless rabbit hole with everything deer hunting. My goal was to scout for deer more then I’ve ever scouted, kill my first buck with a bow and become a better deer hunter. Monday was an awesome hunt and I appreciate all of the great content that I’ve been able to find via podcasts and YouTube. Like a true rookie my focus quickly went from the hunt to how long the drag was going to be so I didn’t get a great picture in the field. Grateful for awesome friends to help me drag the deer out over 400 yards and for letting me hang my deer in their shed. This buck was in a swamp area and the spot I was hunting is the reason I found Dan. My Google search was simply “where do deer bed in cattail swamps” and then the video of Dan on an island popped up on YouTube. The quest to kill a mature bucks continues!

Re: First buck with a bow
Was not aware of the kill zone. I’ve been so focused on strictly the deer hunting thread. I’ll do that now!
