Beauty bush buck.

Unread postby Exophysical » Sun Nov 08, 2020 6:42 am

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I picked up a track with a huge offset this morning, snow was falling and there was a little snow in the track, so I decided to follow it aggressively until the tracks were clean and then slow down. A few miles later the tracks were getting pretty clean and he got weaving around in a bunch of other deer tracks, so I just slowed down and started still hunting in the general direction he seemed to be traveling. Fortune was with me and I got him with a nice 50 yard heart shot. Cant be 100% sure this guy made the tracks I was initially following, but he's built like a tank and has a chest like a bulldog. A prime candidate for the wide track I found, so I'm going to go ahead and claim that its the best buck I've taken by tracking.

The recovery was a 5 hour nightmare, about 3 miles in total with a deer that easily dressed out at over 200 lbs, though I was able to use the toboggan for some of it.

At first, frost on the bottom of the sled was keeping it from overrunning me on the down slopes, then it wasnt. After a few panicked moments that resembled the boulder scene from Indiana Jones, my toboggan took itself for a ride and ended up down into this mess. After about a hour of struggling I had to get some help and as much rope as I could round up. Big thanks for the considerable help I recieved in getting this buck out of the creek. I now owe a neighbor many, many cases of beer.

They say millwrights can fix anything except a broken heart, but I've even got a tool that can do that!

Awesome buck by tracking. Congrats. 8-)

I'm jealous of the tracking snow. That would be so nice right now. Record high temps in the 70's here.

Congrats that's a great buck! Love me some snow tracking. We had some snow last weekend for muzzleloader opener and I tracked a good one down but just gave him a haircut.
