BigwoodsMN 2019
Yo Beasts--
2019 buck story: popped this buck at 15 yards, give-or-take, through a tree while ground hunting. Nov 11th I think. -11F. Zombie rut buck walked right by me heading into an area where does like to bed. Buck had 5 points on one beam that I could see. I added brows and figured 6 to a side... might be a 12pt! -- pulled the trigger. Nope. No brows. And only 3 on the other side. I only had a second to decide and shoot. It was awesome! It's always a rush when you get to pop 'em on the ground up close. I couldn't figure out why the entrance wound was so nasty, so I went back later and found where I had shot through the tree. .270 with 140gr Hornady SST.
Had a good fall shooting ruffies, pheasants, and ducks. Stuck a pretty solid buck in the scapula with my bow unfortunately, in December. Not a hard shot but I aimed "vital v" on a broadside shot, on the ground. He dipped, I missed a couple inches high. Net of story, I screwed up and did not get that buck. I wish I had put it in his lungs like a smart hunter might have. Helped a friend of mine kill his biggest buck. He did all the work. I just helped with the weapon choice earlier in the year and helped field dress the buck and drag it up a ravine when he shot it.
Mainly just reposting this to see if I can get pics hosted on "postimg" loading correctly. I posted same pics/story to the "Lineup" but the pics aren't loading right. Maybe they're just loading slowly.

Thanks JM -- I totally agree. Happens so fast and if you hesitate you don't get the buck. What a rush -

Re: BigwoodsMN 2019
That's awesome. Reminds me of a tree I shot through on a follow up shot on my Idaho elk, I thought I missed the last follow up shot, but later found it went through a tree and just under the skin and into the backstrap. So I feel the first shot killed it eventually. But it got real exciting when it jumped up and ran off -twice. Talk about flinging some follow ups.

I didn't get him weighed. But you're right, it was not an easy drag. That's how I can gauge :)
But I didn't have to pull far. It was so cold I hauled it into town right after dark, so it wouldn't freeze like a rock.
I knew my buck wouldn't beat the one a young lady shot -- her buck won both local contests (within about 70 mile radius) ... two guns. -- Pretty cool.
But the bummer is I had a chance at her buck (Nov 9th) down in a swampy area. I called it in with my grunt tube. It came in fast, facing me, and I didn't want to shoot it in the throat patch when it was still moving. Those shots turn seem to turn into all day (or multiple day) recovery missions for me... and there was no snow yet. Plus, I was trying to figure out its distinct rack when the opportunity vaporized. One-of-a-kind rack. When I saw a photo... "Yep, that's the one." I think it was 220. Its weight held on for a couple weeks to win the buck contests. She shot it 2 miles away up in the farming areas... dogging does. Old buck.

Thanks man. One minute you're slipping along attempting to be smooth... Next minute you're on the ground notching your tag with your bloody knife. I love deer hunting.
I need to go back through the "lineup" and see how guys did. I been hanging around the Facebook page but realized I personally like the forum better.
