"Blockhead"
Been a great fall again. So very blessed to have all 3 of the kids shoot deer and then turn around and take a fully mature buck here during lockdown.
I've been hunting a new parcel that butts up against some public, but still I'm on the private. The public is blocked completely off from access on this side so I had the whole area to myself, it's been awesome. I spent 2 full days on a ridge observing deer movements and Sunday at noon I moved everything to what I'll just call "the stroke zone". It seemed every deer ended going thru this area so I picked a tree and went up. The problem was the hills were steep and my tree was in the middle of the bottom. Even 25" up I was below a lot of the deer.
I waited till this morning because yesterday we had a blizzard and I wanted nothing to do hunting in that. At 0430 I was up and by 0530 I was sitting in -7° temps in November. By 0900 I hadn't seen anything but a fox, but I had nothing better to do so I stayed put, shivering. At around 1010 I heard that oh so quiet stick snap, but it was super muffled from the snow on everything. For whatever reason I KNEW it was a deer. I turned and there he was coming fast down the ridge with his gigantic blocky head down. By the time I got my bow and turned back around he was in my wheelhouse. I drew, aimed, and released in a breath and he was off to the races. Within seconds he was dead, the top of his heart severed by a 2" Grim Reaper. First and only deer of the morning, but it only takes ONE.
Very pumped about this kill. Super cold morning and a lot of my buddies stayed home because of it. Very very proud to have ol Blockhead getting his 1st truck ride from me. What was neat was putting the observation sets to work again, even in the heat of rut. Also neat that the exit side hole is HIGHER than entrance. Even 25" in the tree he was above me on the side hill. Ive never done that before. Also, tree was so big had to improvise a bit
Whack and stack guys, this weather is awesome, keep grinding!

Congrats on a dandy buck muddy! Tall, wide and a big ol' noggin
The worst part of cold weather hunting is freezing your hands while you're hanging the darn stand. Well done. Plenty of venison in the muddy household this season.

Thank you and no, no clue on weight, that's never been something I was overly interested in.

Re: "Blockhead"
Congrats! Seems like they moved late today. I hunted until about 8:15 (have to work some time...) without seeing a thing. Heard of a couple getting shot later in the morning around 10ish
