Election Day Hammer

Unread postby G3s » Sat Nov 09, 2019 2:53 pm

Election Day is officially my favorite day of the of the year to hunt. I got to Ohio on Saturday November 2nd and jumped right into the stand. I had scouted this property the year prior and lots of computer time strategizing for this upcoming hunt. I had high hopes of crazy movement with bucks salivating running everywhere. I was greeted with reality pretty quickly when my first sit I had 7 hours on stand and zero deer. I adjusted stand locations for Sunday, I climbed up the tree at 5:20 am, at 8:30 o saw my first deer. It was a 2 yr old 8 point and definitely not what I was looking for, that would be the first and last deer of the day. 12 hours on stand for Sunday. Monday morning I climbed into my stand at 5:30 am, sat all day with zero sightings. 12 more hours on stand Monday. Tuesday I changed stand locations again to a deep ditch with a creek running through the bottom. I climbed into a double sycamore tree for the day. Very uneventful day with no deer sightings until 5 pm when I caught glimpse of an antler in the thick brush crossing the ditch below me. I have home a loud grunt and that was all it took. He was heading my way and I’m a hurry. He closed to 15 yards so I got a shot on him pretty quick. The shot was perfect and he collapsed within 25 yards. This deer was an absolute horse. When I got him to the butcher he weighed over 260#. We have pictures of this deer for 5 years, believing he was 2 1/2 the first year pictures were taken of him putting him at 7 1/2 yrs old this season. Deer sightings were pretty low this trip but the quality of bucks was excellent.

Glad the persistence paid off! Great example for everyone! Congrats!
