Season Recap
Last weekend I woke to a perfectly clear and frosty morning of about 25 degrees. I have a small property with a cabin on it and anytime I can hunt from there it has a special feeling to it. This morning was extra special in that my dad also came up to hunt as well. I walked dad to his tree and headed to mine. At 8:00 a button buck and doe came through and 5 minutes later another doe came through acting nervous. I got ready in hopes that a buck would be trailing behind. Sure enough I heard crunching in the leaves and I could just barely make out a rack through the leaves. After stopping behing a big oak he trotted in and stopped 10 yards in front of me. I knew he was going to take off right away after the doe so I looked at him and he looked good so I drew and shot. He didn't travel far and I heard him go down. I texted dad and an hour later he came over and we enjoyed the rest of the morning tracking him and getting him out of the woods. It was a perfect day. With my WI tag filled and Jackson Marsh also filling his WI tag it was time to head to MN.
Here's my WI buck.

Re: Season Recap
In MN I bounced around different properties and on the 11/3 I went in blind to a new section. After a morning sit I did some scouting with the stand on my back and set up on some converging trails with scrapes nearby. At 2:50 I heard crunching and a buck was making his way towards me from my left. He stopped to make a scrape then made his way to the trail in front of me. He stopped and I took the shot. The shot felt good but I didn't get great penetration but still thought he would go down quickly. After awhile I slowly climbed down and packed up my stuff. I started tracking a few drops at a time. JM and Zonk54 joined me and we followed blood for about 200 yards and it started to sprinkle. We were able to find blood for about 100 more yards then unable to find any more. Now knowing the shot wasn't as hoped we backed out and I wanted to find a tracking dog to help if I could. I called Shane Simpson and as luck would have it he happened to in the area with his dog Callie. We met at first light and they were able to locate my deer about 280 yards from last blood. Thank you Shane and Callie! What a roller coaster of emotions. It turns out my shot was back farther than I thought and hit the liver.
Here Shane and Callie, thanks again the help!
Interestingly my buck was attacked by another one during the night, the ground was turned up and there were gore marks in him.

Re: Season Recap
Great bucks. Those dogs are amazing.
Shot a AM buck one year, awhile after doing a rattling sequence. Was letting the wobble leave my knees. When I hear antlers rattle in the direction my buck ran. A couple minutes later here comes another buck to within 25 yards. I thought I was seeing things so I threw the binos on him. Yuup, it was fresh blood on his antlers. When I got to my buck I found a few hairs scattered around him and some really fresh looking gouges in the hide. So I can confirm it does happen on occasion.

Re: Season Recap
You forgot to mention that on the day you killed your buck, I tried to convince you to quit early and go get a burger at a bar
Good thing you ignored my request
