Year of the 8 point.

Unread postby Zonk54 » Wed Nov 06, 2019 2:22 pm

Been having a great year so far! Got a dandy 8 pt on 10/18 with early muzzleloader.

On 11/4 I went into a ridge point that juts just into public that brings three terrain features together. I've hunted it the previous year and had great action. I had a perfect w nw wind that would blow my scent off the ridge. I had action all day long with 12 bucks and six does seen. At 4:30 pm I heard some deep grunts below me in the valley. I gave a doe bleat and immediately I heard foot steps come up the hill. A big 8 appeared and he came in broadside at 25 yds. I put my pin on him and released. The arrow was streaking right to his chest and it suddenly dived below his vitals! Nooo i hit a tiny branch. :violin: He walked off and wouldn't respond to more calls. I had a camera in the area and had a few pictures of him.

With so much movement I had to hit that area again. I set up today 11/5 and climbed into my stand all set for an all day hunt. Steady doe movement with a few small bucks came through at first light. At 8:00 am i glanced to my left and saw a big boddied buck running out of a bedding area right at me. He stopped at 20 yds to work a scrape. I drew and zipped an arrow into him. He ran 100 yds and tipped over.

Luckily JAB and Jackson Marsh volunteered to help drag him out and save the day.

With plenty of vacation left I'm off to WI for my first out of state deer hunt.

Congrats on a dandy 8! Buck had good mass in the rack and tines. He'd been rubbing hard too.

That buck you missed has VERY long beams
