Wife's dandy, buck with a darn good story.
I took my wife out this weekend to try and get her a buck. Yesterday we hunted some ridge tops, we saw some animals, including a young bull moose that I called nearly right into my lap just for fun, but the general impression I had is that the cold front had put them lower down the flank. So today we started at the bottom of the ridge, and hunted our way about 2/3 of the way to the top, and then hunted along the ridge at about that elevation.
I let my wife get about 100 yards ahead of me and was just following when I heard a commotion, some snorting and crashing in the bush. At first I thought we had spooked something but as the ruckus went on I realised that it was two bucks fighting within a couple hundred yards of us. I started to sneak towards the sound slowly, but before I got there I heard a shot. Heather had also sneaked in, she had seen two nice bucks fighting but could not get a shot. All of the sudden the bucks stopped sparring and trotted down a game trail... straight at her! When she finally got a clean shot she estimated the distance was less than 10 yards, the distance from the empty shell to the clump of fur was 6 of my paces... quite the close range kill!

We took stock of the situation, we had a big buck down several kilometers from the road, and figured it was worth one of us going home for the quad, I picked up the kids while I was at it. Everyone helped with the dressing and dragging, good family fun. We don't score or weigh our deer, but this does look like its a personal best for her, the field pictures didn't really do the physical size of this animal justice so I took a picture of it hanging. A little narrow in the spread, but in all he's a beautiful example of a nice mature, big timber buck in fine pre-rut condition. Good job!

They say millwrights can fix anything except a broken heart, but I've even got a tool that can do that!

That is a good one for sure!
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.
