Public Land Buck Down
Thanks to this community I was able to seal the deal on my first beast buck last night! Can’t thank you all enough for being so welcoming and for pouring into me over the last year.
It was 96 degrees with a fairly consistent east wind. I threw a virgin sit at a spot I found earlier this summer. It was a tight timber funnel, probably 30 yards wide, that had a thick cut on one side and a busy road on the other.
I accessed directly parallel to the highway on the west side so my wind would blow into traffic. I figured if a buck was in there he’d be bedded on the east on the tip of a timber point jutting out into the cut about 85 yards from the funnel.
Right at closing time, there was a lull in the traffic noise behind me and I heard footsteps. A pretty heavy trail was running right in front of me and I figured that’s what it was using. I focused my eyes on it and was hoping they would adjust quickly.
I saw a rack and drew my bow. As he walked right under my tree, I put it between his shoulder blades and let the arrow fly. He took off with my lighted nock sticking out of his back illuminating everything around him. After 20 yards or so, he pulled a hard left and piled into the cut. He ended up circling back around through the cut and he seemed to be headed back to where I had assumed he was bedded. He didn’t make it.
We found him piled up with my nock shining like a beacon. I couldn’t be happier.

Wow. Great buck congrats. I have seen a lot of your posts and questions over the summer. Looks like your research paid off.
